“For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Listen to the beautiful picture of the messiah:
The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me, because Jehovah has anointed me to announce glad tidings to the meek; he has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and opening of the prison to them that are bound. Isaiah 61:1-3
That is a perfect picture of freedom. The Lord is freedom embodied, which makes sense because he is the Holy Spirit of God in human form.
Jesus tells us that freedom is in the Spirit:
The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.. John 6:63
Paul writes of Spirit fueled freedom,
And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:2
Paul counsels Timothy that the Holy Spirit gives us freedom not fear:
For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
Paul tells the church in Corinth that living by the Spirit, not the written law is why they are ministers of freedom, "He who made us worthy to be Ministers of The New Covenant, not in The Scripture, but in The Spirit, for The Scripture kills, but The Spirit gives life." (2 Corinthians 3:6)
Is it hard to understand that the Holy Spirit is for us to be free? Has religion and rule-keeping clouded your ability to accept - "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1) The human heart without the Holy Spirit cannot conceive of an existence where rights and wrongs and behaving correctly is not the path to Heaven.
